Butterfly

Yesterday, I was at therapy for my Fabulous Femur Fracture. As the therapist is torturing me, I look out the window. There's a monarch butterfly. Floating through the air. A bit of bright orange, against the black glass of the other hospital building. Beautiful! The butterfly looks so small and delicate. But man, she can fly! She rises up so quickly over the four-story hospital building next door. Beautiful! I remember when my daughter lived in Durham, North Carolina. She volunteered at the science museum. The science museum has the Magic Wings Butterfly House. The Magic Wings Butterfly House is 35 feet high. Full of rain forest plants. Full of butterflies, too. Guess what? When you're about to go into the Magic Wings Butterfly House, they do NOT tell you to run hard and chase the butterflies. When you're about to go into the Magic Wings Butterfly House, they do NOT tell you to swing your arms all over, to catch a butterfly. When you're about to go into the Magic Wings Butterfly House, they do NOT tell you to grab the butterfly real hard so it can't get away. Nope! When you're going into the Magic Wings Butterfly House, they do tell you to stand still. They do tell you to stand still, and hold out your hand. And wait. Stand still, hold out your hand, and wait. The butterfly floats down, and lands on your hand. Beautiful! It tickles! In our Bible reading for tomorrow, some of us workers complain to the Owner. Some of us workers complain to the Owner; cuz we think others got it too easy. That's my jealousy. Maybe the real problem i, I'm trying too hard. In the Bible, God's Spirit is compared to a dove. Maybe I could compare the Spirit to a butterfly, too. Stand still. Hold out my hand. And wait. Maybe the Spirit tickles when it lands, too!
