The Woman at the Diner

1 min read

I'm not much of a cook. When I cook, the most important appliance in the kitchen is the smoke detector. That's how I tell when things are done. So, the other night, I took my Sweetie to the Diner. There was a group of six sitting at a table near us. I overheard one of the women telling her friend about her son. He had been looking for a job. He had been praying to God to get him a job. He wanted a job! No job. He was discouraged. He was ready to give up on prayer. I overheard The Woman at the Diner say that she had told her son, "Stop telling God to give you what you want. Instead, ask God to give you what you need." This is a matter of attitude. It's acting as if God is in charge. It's acting as if I actually believe God knows what's best for me. I overheard The Woman at the Diner say, when her son started asking God to give what he needed, that's when he saw the place looking to hire drivers. He got a job as a driver. The Woman at the Diner is wise! I know what I want. What I need is another matter. For today, I will try to do less of telling God what to do. And just report for duty....
