"Watch Out for the Idiots!"

One time, I was visiting church members. As I was leaving, she says, "Watch out for the idiots!" In this case, she was talking about people who drive crazy. They drive crazy because they're proving their manhood by treating the road as their personal race track. I wonder if one of the Christmas angels said that to Jesus, on the night He was born? "Watch out for the idiots!" All His earthly life, Jesus dealt with idiots. People who didn't get what He is about. His family thought He had gone nuts. His followers were always trying push to the front of the line. The pastors only saw Him as competition. The crowds cheered. Then they walked away to look for the next show. Originally, "idiot" meant a "private person." Someone who's caught up in themselves. That makes me an idiot. I'm so fond of the word, MY. I get out of MY bed . I go to MY kitchen and have MY coffee. Then, I get in MY car and go to MY church. I gotta sit in MY spot in MY church. Or else God won't know I'm there. I put MY offering in. What I put in MY offering is MY business. Because it's MY money. Maybe I help out at MY church. Because the main goal at MY church is keep the doors open. Jesus said the First Commandment is for MY church to survive. I just know He said that, somewhere?! Right next to, "God helps those who help themselves." (Oh, wait! That's Ben Franklin, not Holy Scripture.) MY is one of MY favorite words. Except there's that prayer Jesus taught us. The one I pray every week in church. But never pay attention to. That prayer Jesus taught us. The Lord's Prayer, How many times does Jesus use MY favorite word, MY, when He taught us to pray? . Ooops! "Houston, we have a problem." In the prayer Jesus taught, He never uses the word, MY. First, the focus is on a Holy God, not MY wishes for today. Then; it's all "Our." and "us," not MY. Jesus, "Watch out for the idiots!" Idiots like me, FOCUSED ON MY. Getting MY business done in MY day. For today, I will try to be a little less of an idiot. I will pray the Lord's Prayer. And actually try to pay attention a little to the words. First, there's a BIG God. A Holy God Who invites me, challenges me, to stretch a little beyond MY, towards Our. "Watch out for the idiots!" Maybe I better go look for the idiot in the mirror, then turn towards God's world....
