Healing

Yesterday, I went to the hospital to try to visit someone. Since my belly surgery in August, I haven't been able to do therapy for my Fabulous Femur Fracture. The therapist did tell me to walk. So I walked up 5 flights of stairs. Whew! Why couldn't he get a room on the ground floor?! After a breather, I went to his room. Empty. Test? Procedure? I don't know. I can, I will, pray for him. As I was leaving, I saw a sign taped to the lounge window. It said, WHEN YOU SUBSTITUTE WE FOR I, ILLNESS BECOMES WELLNESS. Amen to that one! I had to learn the hard way. life is a team sport. For years, "I told myself I can handle it." As long as I live life as a Do-It-Yourself Project, I cut myself off from the support, and the accountability, others can give. Americans inside and outside churches, we're infected by the American religion of self-reliance. Life is the car commercial. I'm at the wheel. I go where I want. The car commercials never emphasize how alone that person at the wheel is. So, we have much loneliness, inside and outside churches. WHEN YOU SUBSTITUTE WE FOR I, ILLNESS BECOMES WELLNESS. Amen to that one! Today, I will ask for help from another person. Today, I will make a commitment to be accountable to another person. There is Healing, both in support and accountability.
