I'm gonna start by saying I've had a few pictures taken recently. Then I'm gonna show one of my pictures. I will ask, "How do you like my outfit?" The joke is, my picture is an X-Ray. An X-Ray shows my bone. Look at all those pieces! An X-Ray does not show my outfit. The orthopedic surgeon doesn't care about my outfit. He cares about what's inside. Jesus is the same way. He is focused on what's inside. That's what the beginning of this week's Gospel reading is about. Jesus, the Great Physician, is a heart doctor. He cares about what's inside. You know this. I know this. But it's easy to forget. We get worried about what other people will think. Life becomes trying to appear "fine." If I tell everyone I'm "fine," they won't think I'm weird, or weak. That's why everybody in church is "fine." Meanwhile, Jesus the heart doctor is asking, "What about your inside?" What is something I can do today, to move my heart a little closer to the heart of Jesus? I've been reading about the earthquake in Colombia. Over 200 people killed. 500 people missing. Part of a children's hospital destroyed. The heart of Jesus is compassion for people who are suffering. I will send money to help them. Jesus is a heart doctor. He's focused on the inside. What can I do today, to move my heart a little closer to the heart of Jesus?
